Filipino Sautéed Cabbage

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned (optional)
  • 1/2 pound ground pork, chicken, or shrimp (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat the Oil:
    In a large pan or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Sauté Aromatics:
    Add the garlic and onion to the pan. Sauté until fragrant and the onions are translucent.
  3. Cook the Protein:
    If using ground meat or shrimp, add it to the pan and cook until fully cooked, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Add the Vegetables:
    Stir in the shredded cabbage and carrots. Toss to combine and cook for 3–5 minutes, or until the cabbage is slightly softened but still crisp.
  5. Season:
    Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well and cook for another minute.
  6. Serve:
    Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
