Ingredients:
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef or pork (or a mix)
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (14 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 cup water or broth
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions:
- Prepare Cabbage:
- Boil a large pot of water. Core the cabbage and boil for 5–7 minutes until leaves soften. Cool and separate leaves.
- Make Filling:
- Mix ground meat, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika in a bowl.
- Assemble Rolls:
- Trim cabbage stems. Add 2–3 tbsp of filling per leaf, fold sides, and roll tightly.
- Make Sauce:
- Combine diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water/broth, olive oil, and sugar in a bowl.
- Cook Rolls (Quick Method):
- Use a large skillet with a lid. Spread a few cabbage leaves on the bottom.
- Arrange rolls seam-side down in layers. Pour sauce over the rolls to cover.
- Simmer covered on medium heat for 20 minutes.
- Serve:
- Rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
